Bill Hicks Interview

Is there a life after death?

Quotation marks

Grimskunk in Ostend, Belgium tonight

Gutted because I'll probably miss the wonderful progressive multilingual world punkrock band Grimskunk performing one town away from where I live tonight! My legs would not handle standing up for an evening after working 2 long days, the parking lot there will be full cause of the arriving tourists for easter vacation, nobody to go along with even though I'll know some people there, and I have a delivery to pick up tonight somewhere else iykwim, yes I've picked up my relationship with Mary Jane again :p Here are four amazing songs from the amazing album Fieldtrip to share the love though! These next songs are respectively in Arab, 2x Spanish and English. They also sing in French and Greek. Tbh I only know a few songs here and there from the other albums but this one I played endlessly starting from around age 18.

Joe Rogan's AMA

Joe Rogan started an AMA recently on reddit, some highlights so far:
I try to not believe anything. "Try" is the key word, because my mind bounces back and forth occasionally with decisions and judgment, but my honest intentions are always to remain as open as possible.
What's the easiest way for your average person to expand their consciousness?
JoeRoganExperience

I don't think it's ever easy. It requires focus, experience, reflection - none of those are really easy. The key seems to be getting on a path of intent. Wanting to expand your consciousness is one of the most important aspects of actually doing it.
I've met a lot of people that have done massive amounts of mushrooms but they remain idiots.

I heard from Stanhope youre a theist now. Any truth to that?
[–]blinkergoesleft
He was never an atheist. More of an agnostic with a passion for simulation theory.[–]JoeRoganExperience
What he said.

How strange is it for people to know you so intimately as a result of the podcast that they can answer questions about your own life almost exactly like you would?
[–]drum_playing_twig
He feels like it's a bit creepy but he loves us silly bitches for doing some AMA work for him :)

Robert Anton Wilson Lecture - The H.E.A.D. Revolution

Oh haven't seen this before! My day is made! (update: though seemingly I've posted it also last november, blast my memory!!!)

The HEAD Revolution - Hedonic Engineering And Development - began with the psychedelics and bio-feedback machines of the 1960's, then graduated to Lilly float tankes, scientific study of yoga, and neo-reichian body relaxation and neuro-awareness teques. Describing the latest brain-change machines, Dr. Wilson argues that Hedonic Engineering has come of age and we are the first generation in history to have the capacity to tap the full potentials of our brains and graduate from humanity to superhumanity.

RAW lecture given on 03/04/1988, at the First Unitarian Universalist Church in Paradise Valley, Arizona.

See the comments for the explanation of the above image. I took a test http://www.selectsmart.com/RELIGION/ about which religion/BS i subscribe to, and I can't really express in words just how funny and apt I find it that I crashed the application!

Land of Opportunity

I always gotta grin at the "land of opportunity" with its student debt, roommates to be able to afford the rent, people working 3 jobs and still poor, cheap cardboard houses that hurricane's like so much, etc... The power of propaganda... On the other hand Belgium has blocked the piratebay (yay for proxy sites though).

The adventures of Jesus & Buddha, Oh Japan...

Jesus Christ and Gautama Buddha, the founders of Christianity and Buddhism, are living together as roommates in a Tokyo apartment while taking a vacation on Earth. The comedy often involves jokes about Christianity, Buddhism, and all things related, as well as the main characters' attempts to hide their identities and understand modern society in Japan. Each chapter shows how they go about or react to an average day, though they also go sightseeing or visit amusement parks.

Scientists want to bring 22 animals back from extinction

Article here. In my opinion science should occupy itself with interesting and useful things to help humankind evolve, not just "pulling shit because they can."
They chose the animals using the following criteria: Are the species desirable – do they hold an important ecological function or are they beloved by humans?
Okay to the first - and good luck with that cause I'm sure it's a bit more complicated than *respawn & transport here and it all works out*, but "are they beloved by humans?" Science, ladies and gentlemen. At the bottom of the post are two related TED talks, I don't really care enough to watch them myself though and all I can think of is Umbrella Corp creating genetic clusterfucks.
"I'll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you're using here: it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility... for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could and before you even knew what you had you patented it and packaged it and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you're selling it."

"The complete lack of humility for nature that's being displayed here is staggering."

"Yeah but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could they didn't stop to think if they should."

"God help us we're in the hands of engineers."
These are all quotes by Dr. Ian Malcolm, if you don't realize who he is, this next quote should help:
"God creates dinosaurs. God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man. Man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs." Dr. Ian Malcolm
"Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the earth." Dr. Ellie Sattler

Logo Legislators - and after that, hooligan reps vs dems

shortformblog:

thedailywhat:

White House Petition of the Day: Make Legislators Wear Logos of Corporate Backers
The latest brilliant idea to come out of We The People website is this petition suggesting that lawmakers should be required to be more transparent about their financial backers by wearing logos of their corporate “sponsors,” just like the NASCAR drivers do. As of Thursday evening, it has accrued more than 9,000 of the 100,000 signatures it needs to be formally addressed by the White House. GOOD magazine previously explored this idea with photoshopped mockups of New York Senator Charles Schumer and Florida Senator Marco Rubio donning logo patches of their contributors on their suits.
Hat tip goes to Dangerous Minds.

Not likely to go anywhere (just NASCAR drivers, who drive in circles), but sort of amazing.

Bill Hicks - The Week

Kim De Gelder(anagram for Ledger) - the Joker Killer - to prison for life

Kim De Gelder, the cowardly poor excuse of a human being that killed 5 and injured 24 people, mostly babies in a nursery for the love of all that's sacred, is being sent to prison for life. There was a lot of confusion if he would be held accountable for his actions as his sanity was disputed by a lot of psychologists. Psychologists who apparently throw darts to come up with their theories. There were two big camps of "psychologists and experts" who were trying to convince the jury he was insane, and the other that he was accountable for his actions. Medication has almost been entirely ignored, as usual... But thankfully they're not sending this psychopath to a mental health facility but a prison.

Why I'm posting this is the weird connections to pop culture. He was obsessed with the Dark Knight, had died his hair red and his face was first reported to be in white makeup, though his attorney later denied that and just said his face was really pale. He had a history of depression and admitted to have heard voices in his head.

The nursery's name was Fabeltjesland, Little Fables-land, named after the fictional world of the children's series Fabeltjeskrant. Which means Little Fables Newspaper... the main character of this series was an owl, depicted here, you know like Molech is an owl. Holding a newspaper of fables. The opening song mentions - translated "today in the paper it is said, how the animals are doing. Because animals are just like humans. With the same human wishes. And the same human actions/shenanigans. That all appears in the paper of little fables land."
From another site: Upon his arrest, Gelder was found carrying a list of nurseries, three knives, and an axe. He displayed erratic behavior, strange fits of laughter, and weird smiles. When asked what he was doing, Gelder’s only response was “I have a question.” The bizarre quote is reminiscent of a scene in the Dark Knight movie when the Joker violently gatecrashes a party looking for the character of Harvey Dent. “I only have one question: where is Harvey Dent? I’ll settle for his loved ones,” says the character played by Ledger, before threatening a woman with a knife. The media quickly picked up on the similarities between Gelder’s actions and the Batman movie, including the fact that the name Gelder is an anagram for Ledger, but investigators have dismissed the coincidence and said it is not relevant.
You have to wonder about that movie and all the deaths it has led to. Are you able to dismiss it all as coincidence with all the events? I'm not sure I can. The wikipedia page of the movie mentions nothing of its aftermath.

"Tonight you are all going to be part of a social experiment."
The Joker

Where do we get in touch with each other nowadays?

I remember the days when I was posting myspace bulletins before I created this blog. I remember chatting on the amazing deoxy.org in the little chatbox at the bottom as Prisoner627 role playing how I'd be able to escape, until the webmaster changed the chatbox to bots channeling RAW, Terence, etc having a pretty random convo with each other. Which is also pretty cool, yet I miss having easy access talking to people. A lot of you guys have e-mailed me and I've had very interesting conversations with you but eventually the communication dies out somehow, I still have most of those e-mails by the way! What an archive! And the address is dedroidify at hotmail dot com for anyone who wants to say hi.

Now I'm wondering, where do conscious people communicate nowadays? Am I gonna have to set up my own chatroom and/or forum somewhere? Or do you have some suggestions for me? I'd really appreciate it, which forums/chatrooms/social networks/websites in general do you use? Does anyone use the evolver.net site and what do you think of it? Would it be useful to add a Dedroidify page to an existing social network? Which one? Thanks in advance for your input!

Mind Blown! Machine Elves dance around the Fermi paradox

The Fermi paradox (or Fermi's paradox) is the apparent contradiction between high estimates of the probability of the existence of extraterrestrial civilization and humanity's lack of contact with, or evidence for, such civilizations. The basic points of the argument, made by physicists Enrico Fermi and Michael H. Hart, are:
  • The Sun is a young star. There are billions of stars in the galaxy that are billions of years older;
  • Some of these stars likely have Earth-like planets which, if the Earth is typical, may develop intelligent life;
  • Presumably some of these civilizations will develop interstellar travel, a technology Earth is investigating even now;
  • At any practical pace of interstellar travel, the galaxy can be completely colonized in just a few tens of millions of years.
According to this line of thinking, the Earth should have already been colonized, or at least visited. But no convincing evidence of this exists. Furthermore, no confirmed signs of intelligence elsewhere have been spotted, either in our galaxy or the more than 80 billion other galaxies of the observable universe. Hence Fermi's question "Where is everybody?".

Adria Richards gets a guy fired for a joke, gets fired herself

Apparently this... "Developer Evangelist" Adria Richards (this what now?) got a guy fired for making a joke at a tech conference. I guess his employer overreacted to this woman's overreaction. In the end she got fired herself by her own employer because of the situation. As the guy who got fired apologized and was gracious about it, explaining he was not happy to lose his job that he liked, especially supporting 3 kids. Some people on that facebook post are taking internet comments, as usual, too far though... A great example, in the most horrible way, of Belief System BS being emotional rather than rational, internet comments - oh dear. Obviously she got heaps of shit because of it, for instance at Next Level Nerds, especially cause she was making her own dick jokes on twitter while at the conference. She wanted attention, she sure got it. Here! Have some more! Justice served!

Correction: * jokes belong everywhere.

And because I can't be the only one: A technologist or technology evangelist is a person who attempts to build a critical mass of support for a given technology, in order to establish it as a technical standard in a market that is subject to network effects. Professional technology evangelists are often employed by firms who seek to establish their proprietary technologies as de facto standards, or to participate in setting non-proprietary open standards. Non-professional technology evangelists may act out of altruism or self-interest (e.g., to gain the benefits of early adoption or the network effect).

The rat race just gets sillier all the time! That's a job right there, with millions unemployed all over the world, there are people doing this for a living.

Channel Zero - Suck my energy / Black Fuel / Help

I've been awake over 24 hours now, picked up my folks at the airport at an ungodly hour in the morning with a day delay after they missed a connecting flight. I'm not sleepy, I'm not hungry even though I haven't eaten for over 15 hours, but I'm not feeling very chipper exactly either :p I heard this awesome oldschool Belgian metal group on the radio in the car and it helped me wake up a bit so here ya go, 3x Channel Zero!

We gotta slow down the speed
The less we have is the more you need
We gotta cut off the speed
While the engines burn beneath our feet

We're running out of the fuel
It's hard to find like a jewel
We're running out of the fuel
Black fuel's the master making rules
Black fuel controls the wooooooooorld

We stand backs to the wall
And being slaves after all
We stand backs to the wall
Till the never ending story falls

And then one day you'll see
We messed it up so let it be
And then one day we'll see
There's nothing left internally
Black fuel controls the world

Every minute that we move
black fuel's being used
Depending all the time always
more water in the wine
While I'm sitting in my room
patiently waiting for the boom
Black fuel

Eddie Huang on his experience of the TED Conference

He wasn't too happy with it. Compares it to a scientology camp lol... They don't pay you and need you 7 days 12-15 hours a day. Good thing the talks are still great though, but they won't be able to keep it up for too long if they keep up this attitude and start with censorship or bias when it's about expressing ideas... The video is pretty hilarious to hear about the "TED experience."

TED talks no longer sharing Graham Hancock and Rupert Sheldrake's talks

This is kind of depressing, I shared both talks on the blog and can't believe TED did this. At least they posted the following link below, the majority of the comments are heartwarmingly in defense of both men and against censorship at least:
"Graham Hancock’s talk, again, shares a compelling and unorthodox worldview, but one that strays well beyond the realm of reasonable science. While attempting to critique the scientific worldview, he misrepresents what scientists actually think. He suggests, for example, that no scientists are working on the problem of consciousness.
In addition, Hancock makes statements about psychotropic drugs that seem both nonscientific and reckless. He states as fact that psychotropic drug use is essential for an “emergence into consciousness,” and that one can use psychotropic plants to connect directly with an ancient mother culture. He seems to offer a one-note explanation for how culture arises (drugs), it’s no surprise his work has often been characterized as pseudo-archeology.

TED respects and supports the exploration of unorthodox ideas, but the many misleading statements in both Sheldrake’s and Hancock’s talks, whether made deliberately or in error, have led our scientific advisors to conclude that our name and platform should not be associated with these talks."

Yikes, they're not holding back either. What a sad use of language.

  • "Further to my last two statuses I am disgusted to report that TED has indeed hidden my "War on Consciousness" presentation and Rupert Sheldrake's "Science Delusion" presentation on the TEDx Youtube channel. Both videos are now marked as private and so no member of the public can now view them or make up their own minds about them. If this is how science operates, by silencing those who express opposing views rather than by debating with them, then science is dead and we are in a new era of the Inquisition." -Graham Hancock on Facebook
  • "In attempt to brush up their severely tarnished image after censoring my presentation “The War on Consciousness” from the TEDx website today (on the grounds that I was “unscientific”) and also censoring the presentation “The Science Delusion” by my colleague Rupert Sheldrake for the same reason, TED have now rushed to create a remote corner of their website, which I imagine they hope no-one will see, where our talks have been put back online and may be debated: http://blog.ted.com/2013/03/14/open-for-discussion-graham-hancock-and-rupert-sheldrake/.This gesture, they claim, is in response to my suggestion that they had censored us and should be taken as evidence of their “spirit of radical openness”.

All I can say is this is extremely devious behavior on TED’s part. On the one hand they take down two videos from Youtube that had generated enormous public interest and traction (mine had received over 130,000 views and Rupert’s over 35,000 views). Then as soon as TED is tagged for censorship (did they hope we wouldn’t notice?) they put the videos up again in a remote place, which cannot benefit from URL sharing by any of the previous 160,000-plus viewers and which is, thus, to all extents and purposes invisible.

Worse, rather than allowing those viewers who do find this remote corner of the TED website to make up their own minds about our presentations, TED feel the need to “frame” our talks in a way, they say, that can “highlight both their [i.e. Hancock’s and Sheldrake’s] provocative ideas and the factual problems with their arguments.” I find this manoeuver disingenuous in that (1) I see no “framing” at all of our “provocative ideas” but plenty of “framing” of what TED claim are the factual problems with our arguments; this “framing” occurs in the lengthy introduction that TED has published to our videos. (2) TED did not approach either Rupert or myself in advance for any refutation of the “factual problems” they allege in our presentations. In fact I refute all these so-called “factual problems” with regard to my own presentation, and have now posted these refutations on the TED blog (http://blog.ted.com/2013/03/14/open-for-discussion-graham-hancock-and-rupert-sheldrake/) in the form of a series of questions to TED to which I expect answers. (3) The whole concept of this manoeuver by TED is worrying and insulting. It implies that TED believes it has the right to act as arbiter of the context in which my presentation and Rupert’s presentation is received rather than simply putting what we have to say before an intelligent public and letting the public decide. It also suggests that TED believe the public are incapable of making up their own minds about our arguments without approved scientists first highlighting "the problems” with our arguments. Would TED, we wonder, treat many of the provocative talks by, for example, Richard Dawkins, in the same way?

I hope that many of my wonderful and supportive facebook community who see this post will go to the TED URL linked above (again -- http://blog.ted.com/2013/03/14/open-for-discussion-graham-hancock-and-rupert-sheldrake/) and register to post, and add comments there. I believe this is an important issue and it is important that TED do not get away with what (regardless of how they try to finesse it -- "spirit of radical openness LOL!!) is after all censorship.
    " -Graham Hancock on Facebook

Trey Parker & Matt Stone: Acid at Oscars

Geez I only found out they did this last week. Matt even has a joint behind his ear LOL. I also had no idea until recently that they have an alien in every episode. That counts as some awesome Discordianism. But screw them for their 9/11 episode, that was the weakest shit I've ever seen from them.

Hmm

Dear reddit atheists, get over yourselves. Yes, you're intellectually superior for picking a less retarded belief system than a religious one. About this more intelligent and just about as close minded. Basically you picked another color, that looks a bit cooler. Good for you.
It's possible though how retarded would reality, the overmind and any dieties be if this model was real. I mean the world(s)-model not this supermodel. I'm not saying it's not possible, I'm not one to overestimate anyone's intelligence.
Yes, thanks Jack. Another drink?
LOL, well there's a difference, Bush destroyed hope and turned me into a conspiracy nut fearing the worst. At least the future doesn't seem so bleak now.
Anyone watch House of Lies? This phony manager woman mispronounced Namaste at a retreat, the show is pretty cool. Marty Kaan motherfuckers.

ROFL, this guy had an awesome life and death: "On August 25, 1975, despite having no previous hang-gliding experience, YaHoWha used a hang glider to leap off a 1300-foot cliff on the eastern shore of Oahu. He successfully flew his kite but crash-landed on the beach and died nine hours later. After three days of vigil, YaHoWha was cremated."

Hello Simulates! Our first podcast is now up for your listening pleasure. Join co-hosts Kevin Russell and Mat Lee as they skip rocks across the pools of mental cognition, and begin to unveil just what techno-optimism really is.

Little bits of wisdom from Man with the Iron Fists

The Buddha is the enlightened one. The one who sees clearly through his third eye, which is the mind. The Buddha nature... we all have it. But because of the design of our flesh, we do not go according to our nature. The five colors blind the eyes, thus when we see through the veil of color of skin we see all men are the same, and all life is precious.

Abbot, why do you sit in silence here for so long?
Abbot: Words are traps for ideas. Once the idea is caught, the trap is no longer needed. Thus, he who knows, does not speak. This is called, mind to mind. Heart to heart.

Abbot, why so many frightening images?
Abbot: When one is young, righteousness is instilled by fear. When one is in the middle, it's by choice. When one obtains the light, he performs Dharma through understanding.

As the old saying goes. Hairs represent earthly trouble... Thus we shave our hair off.

Although chi exists naturally in your body, we can also extract it from the nature around us. Our special elixir... "gold nectar" can restore your chi. You have absorbed your lessons well, your heart is pure and your chi is strong. Your next lessons are destined to come from somewhere else.

In the beginning there was the word, yet when man failed to hear the word, we were forced to teach by action. The chi in your body travels through the twelve vessels and builds up in your dantien. The triple burners (?!) convert all particles to energy. By learning to regulate breath, you're controlling your chi, a man is capable of amazing feats. If one can finds the source to one's own energy, he can transmute that energy to activate inanimate objects - oooh that's how his iron fists work! :p Ok nevermind most of the last paragraph!

Obedience to anyone
