George Harrison quotes

“Love one another.” (last words)

“I think people who can truly live a life in music are telling the world, "You can have my love, you can have my smiles. Forget the bad parts, you don't need them. Just take the music, the goodness, because it's the very best, and it's the part I give”

“When you've seen beyond yourself, then you may find, peace of mind is waiting there.”

“Try to realize it's all within yourself no one else can make you change, and to see you're only very small and life flows on within you and without you.”

“As long as you hate, there will be people to hate.”

“With our love, we could save the world.”

“There's high, and there's high, and to get really high--I mean so high that you can walk on the water, that high-that's where I'm going'.”

"I felt in love, not with anything or anybody in particular but with everything." (of first taking LSD)

“I'm a tidy sort of bloke. I don't like chaos. I kept records in the record rack, tea in the tea caddy, and pot in the pot box.”

“They used us as an excuse to go mad and then blamed it on us. Gandhi says create and preserve the image of your choice. The image of my choice is not Beatle George - those who want that can go and see Wings. Why live in the past? Be here now.”

“It is one of our perennial problems, whether there is actually a God. From the Hindu point of view each soul is divine. All religions are branches of one big tree. It doesn't matter what you call Him just as long as you call. Just as cinematic images appear to be real but are only combinations of light and shade, so is the universal variety a delusion. The planetary spheres, with their countless forms of life, are naught but figures in a cosmic motion picture. One's values are profoundly changed when he is finally convinced that creation is only a vast motion picture and that not in, but beyond, lies his own ultimate reality.”

“I picture John physically as someone youthful who made a lot, but I feel him more as an energy, more metaphysically.”

“The thing that pleases me the most about it is that young people like it. It's given kids from 6 to 16 an alternate view of music to what's been available for the past 20 years.”

"Try to realize it's all within yourself no one else can make you change, and to see you're only very small and life flows on within you and without you."

"You can be standing right in front of the truth and not necessarily see it, and people only get it when they’re ready to get it. "

"If there's a God, I want to see Him. It's pointless to believe in something without proof, and Krishna consciousness and meditation are methods where you can actually obtain God perception. In that way you can see, hear and play with God. Perhaps this may sound weird, but God is really there next to you."

Jacque Fresco - Paradise or Oblivion

A new documentary about the ideas and vision of futurist and renaissance man Jacque Fresco. Watching this soon, sharing this now.

Life of Brian - Thank you George Harrison

From the Wiki: The film would not have been made without former Beatle and Python fan George Harrison, who set up Handmade Films to help fund it at a cost of £3 million (a move later described by Eric Idle as the "world's most expensive cinema ticket"). Harrison put up the money for it as he "wanted to see the movie". The original backers, EMI Films, had been scared off at the last minute by the subject matter, particularly Bernard Delfont.[7] As a result, the very last words in the film are: "I said to him, 'Bernie, they'll never make their money back on this one'", teasing Delfont for his lack of faith in the project. Terry Gilliam later said, "They pulled out on the Thursday. The crew was supposed to be leaving on the Saturday. Disastrous. It was because they read the script... finally."[10] As a reward for his help, Harrison appears in a cameo appearance as Mr. Papadopoulos, "owner of the Mount", who briefly shakes hands with Brian in a crowd scene. His one word of dialogue (a cheery Scouse, but out-of-place-in-Judea, "ullo") had to be dubbed in later.

George Harrison - Living in the Material World documentary

Great and long documentary about George Harrison and the Beatles directed by Martin Scorsese, I only saw part 1 so far, watching the second today. I found an evaluation copy online here of part 2. Part 1 included some great clips of the Beatles talking about LSD and meditation and their search for spirituality after having conquered the material world very eary on, for example John Lennon and George Harrison talking on a tv show about meditation and what the purpose of a mantra is. Gonna jump on my hometrainer and watch the 2nd part in a bit. If you're even slightly spiritual and a fan of the Beatles you have to see this so try to get a hold of it, couldn't find the first part online yet unfortunately.

Here is that great clip (in bad quality) about meditation I mentioned earlier:

added: I'm watching the beginning of part 2, it's pouring rain outside with the window slightly open and I'm riding the hometrainer bicycle, after about ten minutes in, and they start talking about the song 'Here comes the Sun', Eric Clapton is talking about walking around in the garden with George playing guitar, "and the sun was shining" - and outside my house the sun comes out when the words part Clapton's lips- "and it's a beautiful morning and we started to sing 'Here comes the sun' the opening lines you know, and I just watched this thing come to life." - and the rain faded away and stopped to be replaced by sunshine. Wonderful synchronicity :)

Alan Watts - Do you do it or does it do you?

The moment you see that intervals, that space, is connected, you can understand at once how you are not just to be exclusively defined as a flash of consciousness that occurs between two eternal darknesses, which is the popular common sense view that a westerner has of his own life. That you consider that in the darkness that comes before your birth, there was no you, and in the eternal darkness, your death, there is likewise no you.

And I'm going to discuss these matters, not by appealing to any special, spooky knowledge, as if I had been travelling on the higher planes and knew all my previous incarnations and therefor could tell you authoritatively that you are much more than this individuality, I'm going to do it on the basis of complete common sense thtat everybody has access to the facts, and just what you have to realize is that life is a pattern of immense complexity, and what you call yourself as a living organism, say I am my whole body at the very least, now what is that body? that body is recognizable, and I recognize my friends when i meet them again with luck, and you recognize me, although the last time any of you saw me, I was absolutely something entirely different from what I am now.

Just as the flame of a candle is never a constant, a flame of a candle is a stream of hot gas. Only you say the flame of the candle as if it were a constant, well it is a recognizably constant pattern. The spearshape (?)line of the flame and it's coloration is a constant pattern, but in exactly the same way that we are all constant patterns and that's all we are, the only thing constant about us at all is the doing rather than the being. The way we behave, the way we dance, only there's no we that dances, there's just the dancing. Just as the flame is the streaming of hot gas. Just as a whirlpool in the river is a whirling of streaming water.

There is no thing that whirlpools, there is the whirlpool and in the same way each of us is a very delightfully complex undulation of the whole universe, only by process of miseducation we've been deprived of the knowledge of that fact, not as if there were someone to blame for this, because it's always with our tacid consent. Because life is basically a game of hide and seek, because life is pulsation, on and off, here it is and now it isn't, and by being this pulsation we know it's there. See, you don't know what you mean by on unless you know what you mean by off.
