Daily Dedroidify: Balance (see the page for much more, this is just a small excerpt)
Funny how our western culture likes to emphasize EXTREMES when balance is the key to a good soul, ain't it?
"The best and safest thing is to keep a balance in your life, acknowledge the great powers around us and in us. If you can do that, and live that way, you are really a wise man."
Euripides
"So divinely is the world organized that every one of us, in our place and time, is in balance with everything else."
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
"Moderation is the secret of survival."
Manly P. Hall
"The word happiness would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness." Carl Gustav Jung
"There’s no secret to balance. You just have to feel the waves." Frank Herbert
"Remember that there is nothing stable in human affairs; therefore avoid undue elation in prosperity, or undue depression in adversity." Socrates
"Be moderate in order to taste the joys of life in abundance." Epicurus
"What I dream of is an art of balance." Henri Matisse

Do you really believe that particular Jung quote? I don't agree with any of those kinds of views, cause it's like saying you can't be healthy all the time, you have to have an illness or some type of disability to appreciate or understand proper operation.
I mean, what if we applied that to the internet for example? Unless you experience brownouts and denial of service then normal availibility loses it meaning. I actually think looking at things in that way is what stops Heaven on Earth - cause there's so many minds putting out or believing in the notion that they must experience all these undesirable masochistic things. An ubermensch would not put up with that; the baseline standard would have to be optimal at all times.
I get the intuitive impression that aliens...of the grey variety (based on what lots of folks say also, as to their interactions), operate on those kinds of levels. It's not so much that they have technology that is advanced, it's that they don't have limits on what their minds manifest, cause they would never be dumb enough to manifest anything not fun to experience. And maybe they study people to find out why some of them do things like that - 'why are you broken? what happened?'
Great post! I see two references to moderation..hence why an "instant gratification" western society like ours has so many "drones" that cannot understand what moderation means, they overindulge in everything and then feel empty..Hmmmm. Thanks for sharing!
No zupakomputer I don't believe that particular quote, I don't believe anything! :p
It doesn't say you can't be happy all the time, for me it's just explaining duality and that everything has its opposite.
Great point Michael!
